Matthew Forsythe appointed to Writer in Residence at Concordia
Matthew Forsythe has been named Concordia University’s Mordecai Richler Writer in Residence for 2017.
The acclaimed author, graphic artist and illustrator succeeds novelist, playwright and actor Anne-Marie MacDonald, who was the first to assume this residency.
Forsythe’s illustrations have appeared in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, among a host of other publications. While his literary genre is far different from that of Richler, the Montrealer feels there is a shared inspiration.
“Mordecai Richler embraced his roots, his city, his neighbourhood,” Forsythe said in a statement. “I also think Richler had a healthy distaste for authority and orthodoxy.”
Forsythe is expected to produce a series of digital dispatches on topics inspired by Richler’s work as well as by their shared hometown.
