In her first graphic novel, “Earthling” (2014), this Berlin cartoonist focuses on two sisters and their mother, each trying to cope with growing alienation. Ms. Franz’s smudgy, sometimes sludgy pencils are a perfect match for the women’s psyches as fantasy and reality blur.
