Rebecca Roher

Rebecca Roher is a cartoonist and educator based in Toronto. She received her BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in 2010 and completed her MFA at the Centre for Cartoon Studies in 2015. Her debut graphic novel, Bird in a Cage, was published by Conundrum Press and won the Doug Wright Award for Best Book in 2017. An early version of Bird in a Cage won the award for Best English Comic at Expozine 2015. Her comic, Mom Body, was nominated for an Ignatz Award and went viral in 2015. It was republished several times on platforms such as New York Times Now, Huffington Post, Yahoo Parenting and Bitch Media. Roher is a contributor to the Nib, CBC Arts, Carte Blache and Taddle Creek Magazine. She is currently working on a series of comics based on interviews with near-hundred-year-olds and their reflections on life, aging and death, which is set to be published with Drawn and Quarterly in 2024. Roher has instructed at the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark and teaches comics at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University.
