New paperback version of Berlin featured in NYT

BERLIN, by Jason Lutes. (Drawn & Quarterly, 580 pp., $39.95.) The “magic” of this graphic novel “opus,” 20 years in the making, about the fall of the Weimar Republic, is the way the American author “conjures” an era and a place “so remote from him.” In its last pages, after fascism takes hold, the book “pitches” forward through time “as though to meet us” — Ed Park, one of our Graphic Content columnists, marveled — with “an ending so electrifying that I gasped.”
