At Ye Old Con: D+Q at San Diego Comic-con 2012

    |

OK People! We are here in cool, balmy San Diego, prepping our booth for the convention that starts…gulp…tonight! While waiting for our skids yesterday, we caught up with old friends, Chris Staros of Top Shelf, Eric Nakamura of Giant Robot, Alex Cox & Charles Brownstein of CBLDF, Heidi MacDonald, Garry Sassaman, Chris Butcher and fellow “marrieds” Janice Headley and Mike Baehr of Fantagraphics. The indie gang is here! Or what’s left of us *sniff* but on the *bright* side we also have new neighbors! The Suicide Girls! Between us and Peanuts, across from Giant Robot. Should be interesting! And are you reading The Comics Reporter this week? I would if I were you, that’s all I am saying!

1:00-2:00 PM Trailblazers of Comics— Lynn Johnston and Kate Beaton represent the best of contemporary cartooning. 3:00-4:00 PM The Bookstore Crowd: The comics world looks at “mainstream comics” as the superhero crowd, the ones available in comic book stores every Wednesday. Comics journalist Tom Spurgeon (comicsreporter.com) talks to Comic-Con special guests Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant!), Alison Bechdel (Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama), Brecht Evens (The Making of), Jennifer and Matthew Holm (Babymouse series), Nate Powell (Any Empire), and Jason Shiga (Empire State) about their popular graphic novels that appeal to a more diverse audience in bookstores all over the world.
