D+Q Acquires Baltimore Brownfield by Ebony Flowers

    |

As announced in Publishers Lunch, D+Q Publisher Peggy Burns has acquired BALTIMORE BROWNFIELD by Ebony Flowers, cartoonist of the Believer Book Award winner, Ignatz Award winner, and NAACP Image Award nominated HOT COMB. The deal is for world rights and was negotiated with Monica Odom of Odom Media Management.

“Watching Ebony break onto the comics scene, and the crescendo of applause to her immense talent this past year has been nothing short of thrilling,” said Burns. “Baltimore Brownfield is a story that needs to be told, and will be told with Ebony’s gorgeous drawings; detailed research; deft storytelling; and passion to make sure this story is on paper.”

This graphic novel explores themes of environmental racism, redlining, housing segregation, and community perseverance, detailed through the fabric of everyday life in a neighborhood wedged between the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and Baltimore’s industrial infrastructure.
