Comic Arts Brooklyn

    |

Hello Brooklyn! D+Q may not have a booth at this year’s Comic Arts Brooklyn but we sure have a great lineup of authors (Brian Chippendale! Jillian Tamaki! Michael DeForge! Daniel Clowes! Art Spiegelman! R Sikoryak! Matthew Thurber!) and events you can check out. Remember: the book fair part of CAB takes place Saturday only in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Gymnasium, and the programming happens Sunday in the Wythe Hotel. Everything is free and open to the public, but note that there is limited space in the programming room, so if you spy a panel you’d like to check out, be sure to show up early!

Brian Chippendale’s PUKE FORCE debuts at CAB!

First up: we are thrilled to be debuting Brian Chippendale’s fantastic new D+Q book Puke Force at Comic Arts Brooklyn ahead of its February in-store date. Brian is a special guest of the show and he will be on hand to sign copies – find him in the basement at booth D15 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Gymnasium (12 Havemeyer St in Williamsburg, 11211). Entry is free so hit up the church from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturday November 7th.

And that’s not all! You lucky ducks in NYC also have the chance to hear Brian speak about his work on Sunday November 8th at 11 am, during the “Gardening” panel at the Wythe Hotel (80 Wythe Ave in Williamsburg, 11211). Brian Chippendale, Sammy Harkham, and Mickey Zacchilli will discuss their work inside and outside of traditional comics parameters, and the importance of experimentation in their comics. Jacob Khepler of Mothers News will be asking the hard-hitting questions.

From Jillian Tamaki’s SUPERMUTANT MAGIC ACADEMY

On Saturday the 7th, you’ll also have the chance to meet Jillian Tamaki and get copies of (Publishers Weekly Best Comic of 2015) SuperMutant Magic Academy signed. You can find Jillian at the Desert Island booth (upstairs at booth U1) from 3 pm to 4 pm, where copies of SuperMutant Magic Academy will be available for purchase.

And finally, on Sunday the 8th, there are a number of other panels featuring D+Q authors. From 12 pm to 1 pm, critic Naomi Fry will conduct a career-spanning interview with Daniel Clowes. From 2 pm to 3 pm, catch Francoise Mouly and Art Spiegelman talking “Childhood” and gossiping about all the best classic comics for kids. From 3 pm to 4 pm, Michael DeForge, Jennifer Hayden, and Andrea Tsurumi will talk “Bodies” with anatomy instructor and cartoonist Kriota Wilberg. From 5 pm to 6 pm, the “Performance” panel will feature, well, performances, by cartoonists Matthew Thurber, R. Sikoryak, and Jon Mejias. Basically, CAB has planned an amazing day of comics talks: all you have to do is show up in a timely fashion since space is limited. Have yourselves a nice comics weekend, Brooklyn.
