Art Spiegelman is all around New York this month!

    |

I can’t sit on this news any longer, guys: the inimitable Art Spiegelman is going to be all around New York later this month, inspiring the masses and debuting his beautiful new anthology, Co-Mix. This luxe edition really is ‘a retrospective of comics, graphics, and scraps’- it’s full of long out-of-print material and intimate looks at Spiegelman’s process, and demonstrates just how varied his illustrations are- there was a lot of work before Maus, and here’s a great place to check it out.

So, here are those dates!
Wednesday, September 18th, 7:30 pm | GREENLIGHT BOOKSTORE
Art Spiegelman will present a slideshow and sign unlimited copies of Co-Mix

Sunday, September 22nd, 4:00 pm | BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL
Art Spiegelman will be joined with another Pulitzer prize-winner, Jules Feiffer, as they debate the purpose and impact of comic arts, its history and development, and their visions of its future. There’ll also be a screen projection!

Tuesday, September 24th, 7:00 pm | HOUSING WORKS
Art Spiegelman will be joined in conversation by Dan Nadel, co-editor of Comics Journal!

Here are some really nice words from It’s Nice That: “What’s refreshing about Co-Mix is the level to which it demonstrates Art’s diversity. While many retrospective publications like to show off just the one creative direction, this revels in the frenetic intellectual talent that produced the graphic novel’s finest example, his borrowing of other artist’s stylistic traits and turning them into something altogether more powerful. Even the great Art Spiegelman had influences.” Yesss. Exactly!

You can RSVP on Facebook! I’d go to all three if I were you, NY. Just sayin’.
