All the fun this weekend

    |

Look, I know most of you are on a lake sipping a cool bevvie, but there are a number of great things you could be doing this weekend that are not lake-related and are in fact comics-related. First off, Seth will be at Windsor Comic Con over the weekend for book signings and screenings of SETH’S DOMINION. Then, it’s the last few days of exhibits by Michael DeForge, Seth, Miriam Katin, and Sarah Glidden.

Look, I know most of you are on a lake sipping a cool bevvie, but there are a number of great things you could be doing this weekend that are not lake-related and are in fact comics-related. Let’s start in Ontario and work our way west.

WINDSOR, ON: Seth at Windsor Comic Con for signing and screenings of SETH’S DOMINION

Windsor Super Summer Comic Con takes place this weekend in the Caboto Club (2175 Parent Ave). The show runs from 11 am to 6 pm on Sunday July 5th, and admission is $5 – free for children 10 and under. Seth will be signing books from 1 to 4 pm (books will be available for purchase from Biblioasis) and attending two screenings (one at 12:30, one at 3 pm) of Luc Chamberland’s documentary Seth’s Dominion. I’ve told you before, but I’ll say it again: that is a great documentary! And what could be a better way to cap off a great documentary about Seth than to pick up a copy of Seth’s most recent book, Palookaville 22?

Seth will also be in attendance for Saturday’s VIP party: tickets are $25 and available exclusively at Biblioasis (1520 Wyandotte St. East, open Monday through Saturday 10 am-6 pm).

OTTAWA, ON: Michael DeForge’s ALL DOGS ARE DOGS exhibit

Today and tomorrow (July 4th) are the last two days to visit the Galerie SAW Gallery in Ottawa (67 Nicholas St, open 11 am to 6 pm today and Saturday) and check out Michael DeForge’s very first massive and visionary solo exhibit. Five of the D+Q staff drove down opening night to ogle these massive drawings and sculptures IRL and we couldn’t stop talking about it for days. In fact, I’m still talking about it now! Ottawa, seriously, if you haven’t gone yet, what are you waiting for?

REGINA, SK: The last few days of Seth’s DOMINION exhibit

Seth’s model city, Dominion, is still on view in Regina for a few more days! Head on down to the Dunlop Art Gallery (2311 12th Avenue) today, tomorrow, and Sunday and immerse yourself in Seth’s world. The gallery is open from 9:30 am to 6 pm today, 9:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and 12 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. As a bonus, Seth has curated a selection of vintage short films from the NFB that are available in Dunlop’s Central Mediatheque.

COLUMBUS, OH: Miriam Katin and Sarah Katin in the GRAPHIC DETAILS exhibit

Finally, it’s also the last few days to check out the Graphic Details exhibit at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum (1813 N High St.) in Columbus, Ohio. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm, so you have three more days to check it out! This version of the travelling exhibition includes pieces from the Billy Ireland’s collections.

Phew, ok, if that isn’t a lot of options for fun urban activities, I don’t know what is. So hit the road, jacks!
