Chester Brown and Sook-yin Lee appear at Desert Island in Brooklyn, NY on January 29 for a book signing and meet-and-greet in advance of the theatrical run of Lee’s film Paying For It, adapting Brown's landmark Brown graphic memoir.

Chester Brown is one of the modern giants of Canadian comics. He is often cited as one of the major figures who brought autobiographical comics to the forefront of the 1990s comics scene.

Paying for It details his decision to stop seeking romantic relationships and instead pay for sex with sex workers, exploring his experiences and advocating for the legalization of sex work. It combines autobiography with a polemic, presenting a personal and unvarnished look at his life as a “john,” demystifying the world of sex work through his own story.

As most longtime readers are aware, the film adaptation is made by Sook-yin Lee, Chester’s longtime creative partner and former girlfriend, a collaboration which advances and complicates their already lengthy public sharing of their intimate entanglements.
