I see some good costumes in Nora's future. Congratulations to Adrian Tomine and Sarah Brennan on the birth of their daughter, Nora Emiko Tomine, October 31st, 2009, 1:40 AM, 8 lbs, 9 ozs. So sweet, and another reason for me to post baby photos on the blog.

Adrian's Last West Coast Events For a Long, Long Time.

Yes, Adrian, along with fellow cartoonist Seth, will be on the West Coast leg of his book tour with stops in Los Angeles at the mighty fine Los Angeles retail establishment Skylight Books in Silver Lake on Wednesday, June 17th at 7:30 PM and in San Francisco at the Park Branch of the SFPL around the corner from the equally fine retail establish of Booksmith in the Haight on Thursday, June 18th at 7:30 PM.

After these two events, Adrian will be back to his drawing table in Brooklyn and won't be back out for some time!

To celebrate, D+Q is teaming up with other two other indy Montreal organizations, Blue Skies Turn Black and Suoni Per Il Popolo, to present a not-to-be-missed concert here in Montreal, TV on the Radio and the Dirty Projectors! Mark your calendars, it's June 3rd at the Metropolis. How does this get any better? Well, Adrian Tomine kindly provided the beautiful poster, which will be on sale and plastered around the city of Montreal soon.

It's a book that manages to be, all at once, an insider's history of manga, a mordant cultural tour of post-Hiroshima Japan and a scrappy portrait of a struggling artist. It's a big, fat, greasy tub of salty popcorn for anyone interested (as Americans increasingly are) in the theory and practice of Japanese comics. It's among this genre's signal achievements.

OK, so chances are, you're sitting there, wondering what the heck you are going to get your girlfriend for Valentine's Day, which is this Sunday! Look no further friends, as the Cartoon Bank of the New Yorker has been selling Adrian's covers that you can buy as prints (framed or unframed) or as stationary, and now the magazine is selling his interior illustrations as prints.

What's new with Adrian? Well, last week, Paul Gravett of Comica hosted Adrian for the Faber edition of Shortcomings, which drew such a large crowd that the ICA had to move the event to a bigger room. While in London, Adrian signed for four hours at Gosh and spoke to Intelligent Life, the cultural magazine of the Economist.

This June, Adrian will be on the road again promoting the softcover edition of Shortcomings and the boxed set of 32 Stories...more on that later...

I love Adrian's New Yorker this week, as when I used to live in Brooklyn, I lived right around the corner from the garage for all of the ice cream trucks, which isn't as loud as you may think.

Attention to all of our European readers! Adrian is in Angouleme this week with Dan Clowes and Chris Ware and then "jets" over to London for an event on Tuesday, February 3rd at the ICA for Comica!
